Pedestrian Crossing on Hills and Long Road junction

I am delighted to say that as a result of a Local Highways Improvement bid I submitted in January this year, the council have agreed to progress this proposal. A pedestrian crossing will be added to the crossroads at Hills Rd and Long Rd. There is currently no official crossing at this junction on Queen Edith’s Way and the cropped kerbs are not opposite each other and badly placed behind waiting traffic.

The first step is the monitoring of traffic which will commence in mid September for 8 weeks. The technology will survey vehicles, pedestrians, and cycles, and will also tracking near misses and desire lines of active travel users. This data collection exercise will inform future modelling and junction testing, as well as supporting decision making around what is possible. 

The next step after that will be a feasibility design for the signals and crossing.
