Eddeva Development

Eddeva Development

I was at the Eddeva development today to hear about progress on the site. I got taken round and shown the progress. Some information about the site:

The site is for 80 homes of which 32 will be affordable. There will be a wide range of houses from large to small.

The developer has gone for a fabric first approach, which means that they have minimised the need for heating. Houses are traditional construction i.e. block and brick and various sustainable measures have been applied. To name a couple: there will be waste water heat recovery i.e. heat from waste water will be used to warm up the incoming cold water a few degrees which will save money. Water saving measures are incorporated into the house.

The whole site slopes slightly down towards Babraham Road, and so the water attenuation basin will be just on Babraham Road where waste water will enter the sewage system.

The construction company is Cognisant Construction who are based in Cambridge and they have an experienced team on site most of whom are also based in/near Cambridge. They have had zero health and safety incidents and I was made to wear proper boots and gloves on the site. There are marked walkways for pedestrians who are kept away from site traffic. They have taken care to employ locally and are keen to employ apprentices for skilled trades. I found them an impressive team of experienced construction professionals.

The hot weather has meant that the building work has progressed well – they are 4 weeks ahead of schedule, and under budget. The show home near Babraham Road will be completed this year and construction will end in June 2028.
