The incident has resulted in a\u00a0<strong>significant carriageway failure<\/strong> requiring emergency closure of the road to allow safe repair and reinstatement.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE 28 Aug:<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">They have now completed the investigations on the road surface and works to get the road open will commence tomorrow.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraph\">Friday 29<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 We will be on site to remove the 52m2 of damaged road surface<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraph\">Saturday 30<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 We will be relaying the road surface with tarmac \u2013 this will then cure overnight into Sunday<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraph\">Sunday 31<sup>st<\/sup> \u2013 Road markings will be replaced<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraph\">Monday 1<sup>st<\/sup> \u2013 Road sweeper will attend to clean the road and surrounding areas<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraph\">Road will be open by close of business on Monday 1<sup>st<\/sup>, but we are hoping for lunchtime on Monday<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">They will also have a separate team on site over the weekend to clean up the driveways along Fendon Road due to the silt from the burst travelling.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE 26 Aug: A substantial portion of the road needs repair and it is now estimated to take until Friday 29 August.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE 21 Aug 4.30pm: The water main is now repaired. The road is badly damaged and will need specialist contractors to fix it. Estimated completion for the road repair is middle of next week i.e. 27 August.<\/p>\n<p>The sign indicating no right turn from Hills Road onto Nightingale Ave is taken down, and that prohibition will be temporarily lifted. There will be a new sign from tomorrow i.e. as soon as Cambridge Water can make it.<\/p>\n<p>The bollards on Nightingale Avenue have been unlocked for emergency access use only. Someone from Cambridge Water will be there during the day to remove them for ambulances etc. At night they will be removed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Details<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The burst is now confirmed on a\u00a0<strong>200mm (8\u201d) main<\/strong>\u00a0which requires a section cutting out and inserting. A patch repair is not suitable in this case.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Initial reports suggested a 4\u201d main, but this has since been clarified.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Due to firm ground conditions, damage has been contained locally and has mainly impacted the surrounding carriageway structure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>whole carriageway surface has been compromised surrounding the burst<\/strong>\u00a0and will require excavating out and reinstatement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>Traffic Management (TM) Plan<\/strong>\u00a0is in place (attached).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is hoped the actual burst repair will be completed today; however, the carriageway repair\/reinstatement will take longer due to the extent of damage. Currently this could take up to 5 days. Further updates on timescales will be confirmed in due course, and Cambridge Water are working hard to facilitate completion as soon as possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Operational Impacts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The local area is experiencing\u00a0<strong>reduced water pressure<\/strong>, but\u00a0<strong>Addenbrooke\u2019s Hospital supply is not affected<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Approximately 80 properties on Red Cross Lane will have their water shut off when the repairs are carried out. Provisions are in place to supply bottled water if required, dependent on the amount of time needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Emergency service access<\/strong>\u00a0is being maintained and\u00a0<strong>Nightingale Avenue used as an emergency access route<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Special signage<\/strong>\u00a0has been requested, though additional time is needed for production and installation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Multiple other bursts are ongoing across the city; contractor resources are\u00a0<strong>stretched but coping<\/strong>. This may, however, cause\u00a0<strong>delays to less critical repairs<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stakeholder Engagement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cambridge Water<\/strong>\u00a0are leading the repair, working in collaboration with CCC Street Works inspectors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Street Works Inspector<\/strong>\u00a0is monitoring on site and coordinating with Cambridge Water and Addenbrooke\u2019s.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Engagement with the hospital is being followed up directly to ensure awareness of impacts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Communication statements have been prepared and social media kept updated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Emergency Planning Team aware and monitoring due to the potential direct\/indirect impacts.
