This will mean that <\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>only \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/smokecontrol.defra.gov.uk\/appliances.php\/\">exempt appliances<\/a>\u2019 approved by DEFRA can be used to burn wood or logs<\/li>\n<li>if the stove or applicance is not exempt, then an authorised &#8216;smokeless fuel&#8217; type must be used, for example, manufactured solid fuel (MSF) or anthracite<\/li>\n<li>the fuel used needs to carry the &#8216;Ready to Burn&#8217; logo and the appliance and flue should be well maintained<\/li>\n<li>chimneys must not release &#8216;substantial&#8217; smoke<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The consultation which is open until Sunday 20 April 2025 can be found here <a href=\"https:\/\/engage.cambridge.gov.uk\/en-GB\/projects\/smoke-control-area-expansion\">https:\/\/engage.cambridge.gov.uk\/en-GB\/projects\/smoke-control-area-expansion<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The City Council is carrying out a consultation on whether to expand the smoke control areas which were set up in the 60s to cover the whole city.
