City Council Update September 2025
There were only 2 meetings in the month of August, both regarding planning matters.
14 August Planning: Pre-application developer presentations
Hannover Court and Princess Court
There was a presentation on the redevelopment of Hannover Court and Princess Court which are very close to the Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and English Martyrs just off Hills Road.
The proposals are for a set of five blocks arranged around a communal garden and 127 homes on site which fall below current nationally described space standards, have very low thermal efficiency, fire safety issues, are in poor condition with structural issues.
The proposal seeks to replace the existing buildings with new residential accommodation totalling 165 homes (72 affordable- 44% and 93 private homes- 56%). The proposals include the creation of a new community room located on the ground floor of one of the apartment blocks, this facility is intended to replace the existing community room currently located on-site.
20 August Joint Development Planning Committee
The following sites, none of which are in Queen Edith’s were considered and approved:
- Former NIAB site, Huntingdon – demolition of all site buildings and structures other than Chapter House and erection of buildings for a lab/office campus and associated facilities
- Springstead Village – parcel of land RMA 5 – the third phase of residential development to come forward on Springstead Village (Land North of Cherry Hinton) pursuant to the outline consents.
- Roninson House, Cowley Road, Cambridge – Refurbishment and extension to existing building for continued Class E use (including office and laboratory use with ancillary cafe, event and community space) and landscaping, car and cycle parking, plant and storage and other associated works
Pre-application Developer Briefing
- Land South of Dame Mary Archer Way, Cambridge Biomedical Campus – Reserved Matters Application pursuant to outline Planning Permission Ref. 16/0176/OUT in respect of the development of the final commercial R&D building (4000 Discovery Drive)
