Councillors had an update on the developments at the CBC this week. Here is a summary:
Cancer Hospital
- Enabling works have started on this and will last until autumn i.e. hoardings put up, land excavations and archaeological work started
- Full construction will start in 2026
- Full business case will be submitted in the summer.
- Completion in 2029
Acute Hospital
- The Trust has been granted £3m to develop a case to central government. £10m will be required to take the project to RIBA stage 3.
- Much work has been done to work out how the new hospital will work with primary and social care.
Offsite Logistics
- Mindful of the effect of lots of lorries on surrounding residents, the CBC has started to explore setting up an external logistics hub which would gather together goods for all occupants of the site and bring them in one lorry rather than many to the site. It is early days yet but I think they are to be commended for this.
Events on the site
- There are many events on the site – see https://cambridge-biomedical.com/whats-on/
- Most notable are the Open Forum where you can hear for yourself what is happening, next week on 11 March
- International Day of Happiness is also being celebrated on Thursday 20 March.
