Addenbrookes Roundabout Roadworks update

A reminder that the works take place between 8pm and 6am with the noisier work happening before midnight. This is the update I have received:

Last week, the site team undertook a range of works to the roundabout, including taking core samples to look at the road’s layers and removing the existing road markings in preparation for new markings to be painted at the appropriate time.

They have also:

  • Excavated trial holes to locate the Cadent gas pipeline.
  • Completed drainage surveys to inform ongoing groundworks.
  • Cleared vegetation to allow the main works to start.
  • Started widening the inner ring of the roundabout to increase carriageway width.
  • Started work to remove the existing traffic signal poles and chambers in readiness for the installation of new traffic signal infrastructure.
  • Temporary traffic signals will be installed and commissioned to maintain traffic flow during the removal of existing signals.

All traffic management equipment, such as cones, will be removed during daylight hours.

This week, the team will be clearing the site and taking drainage samples. Work will also start on the traffic signals at the roundabout ahead of new signal controllers being put in place to make the traffic light sequencing more efficient. There will also be some minor excavations.

The programme remains on target to be completed within the allotted eight weeks.

We know some residents experienced disruption from noise and an instance of vehicles parking on the public highway outside their property. We have responded to the emails individually and have asked the site team to continue to keep disruption to a minimum and be more considerate in the unlikely event of them having to unload machinery on Fendon Road in future.
