The Secretary of State for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has approved the application to move the waste water treatment plant for Cambridge currently located in the north of the city on Cowley Road, to be moved to to a new site between Horningsea, Fen Ditton, and Stow cum Quy, adjacent to the A14 in South Cambridgeshire known as Honey Hill.
This means that the old site can now be developed to enable the delivery of thousands of new homes and new jobs in a highly sustainable location where development has been frustrated for decades by the presence of the existing waste water treatment plant. Journeys to work from this location will be shorter and more amenable to public transport, reducing pollution in the city for example.
This also protects areas around Cambridge from speculative developers who might want to develop housing in areas that the Council does not want.
