UKPN Road works Mowbray Road

The next stage of UKPN works are to take place on Mowbray Road between the junctions of Cherry Hinton Road and The Dutch round-a-bout. This is an important section of the project linking up already installed ducting and cables within Queen Ediths Way and Perne Road. Highways have granted a permit for works to take place over a 10 week period between 10 April and 16 June. Works will be performed over a full road closure. This is in line with the Streetworks Act ensuring the safety of our site team and the public, as well as allowing us to keep the works as quickly as possible, returning the carriage way to road users.

Access will be made available to all residents and business. You will be aware of the importance of this road to Cambridge and the potential for increased congestion in the area, and UKPN will be taking the following steps to help reduce any disturbance.

·       All residents on Mowbray Road (and surrounding roads) will receive a letter in the coming weeks

·       Businesses on Mowbray Road will be visited in person to discuss access

·       UKPN will be holding a public drop in session (dates and times to be confirmed)

·       Addenbrookes and emergency services will be contacted but access will be given to all emergency services during the works

·       Updates will be posted on UKPN’s dedicated website – UKPN – Cambridge [ukpowernetworks-cambridgeshire.co.uk]

·       UKPN will be working with highways on social media posts to ensure commuters, as well as residents, are aware of the closure

I’m afraid this will cause a great deal of traffic delays over a long period. This work is necessary to improve the electricity supply to Cambridge but it will be very disruptive.
